Personal, Social and Emotional Development – children are supported to understand their own feelings and those of others, manage emotions, develop a positive sense of self, have confidence in their own abilities and develop good friendships with others.
Literacy – children are encouraged to develop a life-long love of reading through access to a wide range of reading materials, including stories, non-fiction, rhymes and songs. The Read Write Inc. phonics programme is followed to enable children to link sounds to letters, and begin to read and write words and sentences.
Mathematics – children are given frequent and varied opportunities to develop a deep understanding of numbers to 10, count confidently and to build on and apply this understanding practically, develop spatial reasoning skills including shape, space and measures and look for patterns, making connections.
Understanding the World – children are supported to make sense of their physical world and their community, through visits, visitors and listening to stories, non-fiction and rhymes, to develop an understanding of the diversity of people, places and environments.
Expressive Arts and Design – the development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness to support their imagination and creativity, involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. They share their ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, dance, role-play and design & technology.
