Computing Curriculum Statement
At St Hugh’s Catholic Primary School, we follow the Teach Computing curriculum.
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.
The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation; how digital systems work; and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.
Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
From EYFS children are exposed to a range of different technology and discover how these technologies can help us in everyday life. The units for key stages 1 and 2 are based on a spiral curriculum. This means that each of the themes is revisited regularly (at least once in each year group) and pupils revisit each theme through a new unit that consolidates and builds on prior learning within that theme.
Year 5
We looked at the process of each part of a delivery and ordered them into chronological order.
Year 3
In computing, we are exploring computer networks. To enhance our understanding, we took part in a scavenger hunt around the school to identify the various components that make up our school network.
Year 1
In computing, we learned about the parts of a computer and how to use a mouse to create an image.
Year 2
We have been exploring how to take photos for different purposes
