At St. Hugh’s, we have three daily prayers. We say our School Prayer at the start of every day and our Lunchtime and Hometime prayers later in the day.

These are our daily prayers:

School Prayer

Dear God,

Teach us kindness, all day through,

In everything we say and do.

Help us to show respect each day,

To everyone and in every way.

Guide us to be honest and bright,

And always do what is right.

God, bless our school every day

St. Hugh help us, this we pray.

Amen

Lunchtime prayer

Thank you for the world so sweet.

Thank you for the food we eat.

Thank you for the birds that sing.

Thank you, Lord, for everything.

Amen

Hometime prayer

God our Father, we come to say, thank you for your love today.

Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light.

Amen

Year of Prayer

2025 will be a Jubilee year in the Catholic Church. To prepare for this special year Pope Francis has designated 2024 as a Year of Prayer. During this year we are encouraged to deepen our commitment to prayer and accompany others, especially school communities, in their prayer life.

During the year there will be a particular focus on the prayer Jesus taught us, the ‘Our Father.’

Our Father,
Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen

Celebration of the Word

At St. Hugh’s, our children take part in daily acts of collective worship. We call these times ‘Celebration of the Word’ as the focal point is always a piece of Scripture read directly from the Bible.

Twice a week, on a Wednesday and a Friday, we gather as a whole school for a ‘Celebration of the Word’.

Every other day, these worships take place in class.

We love welcoming parents into class to join in our Celebration of the Word.

Hymn practice

Mr Mair leads a weekly hymn practice for all children. Our children love these sessions and they always raise the roof!

Feast Days and Holy Days

We celebrate some Feast Days and Holy Days with whole-school special assemblies.

We celebrated St. Hugh’s Feast Day and learned about Mr and Mrs Bob, the swans we have sponsored as a school.

Last Supper

Our assembly mirrored the spirit of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. By washing the children’s hands, the staff not only honors this sacred act of humility but also creates a space for the children to experience service and care firsthand. Sharing bread and juice afterward brought the ceremony full circle, resembling the breaking of bread at the Last Supper.

Masses at the Metropolitan Cathedral

Year 4 and 5 children were invited to participate in Masses at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral as part of the Schools Singing Programme. This year, their involvement has included the Schools’ Advent Mass and the Good Shepherd Mass.
