Sensory Needs
Sensory Needs
We work alongside OSSME (Outreach Support Service Mainstream Education), to provide support for children with sensory needs.
We recognise the importance of children needing to regulate themselves through the use of sensory breaks to support a child’s ability to focus and ‘readiness’ for learning. This in turn supports a child’s mental health.
We offer children a variety of sensory breaks throughout the school day.
Classroom Sensory Zone
Each classroom has a sensory box equipped with a rich variety of resources. The resource that is used within the classroom for a child depends on the individual child’s need.
Sensory circuits
Some children need a 5-minute break from the classroom to engage in a sensory circuit. Following a sensory circuit, children are much more able to focus on the lesson content.
Sensory activities – lunch-time
We offer a rich variety of sensory activities timetabled for all classes to access. Our sensory activities support: alerting, organising and calming the brain.
